Tokyo Dragons "Hot Nuts" get an airing on tour this next month

Retro rockers Tokyo Dragons are ready to blast back onto UK stages after unleashing their new album, ‘Hot Nuts’. The London based four-piece have toiled long and hard over the making of the new record and they are now about to embark on a batch of highly anticipated UK dates.

Armed with a fresh collection of 70s tinged rock anthems, the Dragons are back and drummer Phil Martini is more than pleased with the new album. He said: “We're pretty smug about it! - We’ve created a killer record, and keep a lookout for the smart artwork too!”

The making of the album saw the Dragons, completed by vocalist Steve Lomax, guitarist Mal Bruk and bassist Mathias Stady, head to the States to link up with producer Kurt Bloch. Bloch, whose credits include Nashville Pussy and the Supersuckers, was at the helm for a month long recording stint in Seattle, during which time, according to Phil, an unshakable rock allegiance was founded.“We were lucky enough to spend four weeks in Seattle, working up an unbreakable bond with Kurt.

“With our rock credentials & his endless cool, we couldn’t fail!” And they certainly haven’t failed. ‘Hot Nuts’ delivers ten salacious slabs of foot stomping classic rock fused with enough dueling guitars to put Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham to shame. The band made a potential rod for their own backs by releasing a debut album (Give Me the Fear) back in 2005 which included infectious rockers such as ‘Teenage Screamers’ and ‘What the Hell’.

The album resulted in lavish praise from all over the rock press, but this meant that the follow up had to be something special, and the boys haven’t disappointed with ‘Hot Nuts’.Tracks like ‘On Your Marks’, ‘Keeping the Wolf from the Door’ and ‘On Fuel’ provide just want you want from a Tokyo Dragons song, good time ballsy rock that begs to blasted out on the road.

It’s a good job then that a UK headline tour is just around the corner! The Dragons have spread their net far and wide with tours all over Europe in the past 18 months, something which is a key part of the bands ethic.Phil added: “We kind of expect the limitations of rock ‘n’ roll in the UK now, in terms of the media coverage, live circuit and a lack of good bands. “So, getting out there and playing live is the key, and it’s a rock bands bread and butter.

“It’s not easy getting gigs and keeping a band on the road is expensive, but where there’s a will there’s a way to kick out the jams!”It’s a busy time for Phil and the rest of the band, with more than just a new album and tour on the horizon.London’s finest classic rockers are also featured in the forthcoming Rock Legends at Rockfield book, as well as having a track in the new Jackass game.On these developments Phil enthused: “The author (of Rock Legends…) knew that we made our first album at Rockfield and told us of his great idea of making a book all about our three week stay there, and then tying on some stuff about ‘Sabbath and Queen – just to pad it out a bit!“As for Jackass, well everyone knows Knoxville’s our number one fan … don’t they?!”

With that Phil headed back to Dragons HQ for another day of ‘scheming, plotting, creating and rockin’, and presumably to dig out the denim jacket and cowbell to bring Hot Nuts to the masses.

The Dragons UK tour kicks off in Minehead on November 9th and runs through to November 17th.Check out http://www.tokyodragons.com/ for more details.

SUNDAY!

WITH DJ RICHIE HUDSON

PLEASE BRING I.D. TO THIS.
NO I.D. NO ENTRY!!

Pure Rawk sponsors "TEAZER"

Pure Rawk is proud to be associated with a new glam DJ night in Oxford called "Teazer".

A "decadent night of glam, sleaze and trashy rock n' roll" hosted by DJ Foxy Roze is at The Gloucester Arms, Friars Entry.

Playing loads of the stuff you've heard and rocked out to before (maybe even air guitared to or pole danced to) to the cream of breakthrough sleazy glam and hard rock n'roll. "We (Pure Rawk & FR)
both love plugging new and unsigned bands. I want to help promote them at Teazer by playing their tracks and giving them much deserved exposure"
says Foxy Roze. On the night you can expect "The well known, spandex clad hairsprayed bands of the 80's Motley, Poison and Ratt to newer punkier, sleazier bands like Vains of Jenna, Trashlight Vision and Crank County Daredevils. I try to mix the commercial hits with more obscure bands to keep it unpredictable and hopefully introduce people to some new music. Also there's the new bands. Patchwork Grace, Disarm and The Pleasures are my current faves to play!" Roze enthuses.

Teazer is 8PM-1AM on Friday 19th Oct, Fri 9th Nov, Sat 8th Dec (a pirate night) and every first Friday from the new year. Go to www.myspace.com/teazer_glam for more information!

Fangs for the support - The Authentics say farewell to their drummer at Halloween show

Who knew? After several years toiling (and troubling) around the UK, The Authentics have emerged into the limelight again with a brand new outstanding live show with big drums and heavy guitars topped off with a cauldron of smooth melodies - the band their drummer at Halloween Spook-tacular show sure have all the ingredients for their killer pop-rock songs.

With 40+ gigs already played in 2007 all over the UK, The Authentics finish their current tour of live shows in their hometown of Leicester on Wednesday 31st October. This creepy Halloween special will be the band’s last show of the year and their drummer’s (David New) farewell gig before a New Year break for recording a new single. The screamingly good event takes place at the Level One Club of DeMontfort University Student Union, Mill Lane, Leicester.
Following up their stormy hi-volume debut album “Blondes Make the Best Victims?” in which the band was described in the UK press as “forever producing soundtracks to late night binge-ups, drug-addled shindigs and crotch-grabbing soirees” (Rock Something, March 2007) the band have seen themselves being part of the digital community with the CD being available for download at Apple's iTunes store and other online outlets.

Their LP was also described as having “Easily accessible lyrics, anthemic choruses and toe tapping beats (which) make this album addictive from the opening riffs. The band has plenty to say and the music to back it up”. (Glenn Butler, Powerplay Magazine Issue, 84 Feb 2007).

The band will be playing their big pop hooks which anchor catchy and commercial-sounding songs spearheaded by new hit “Ton of Bricks” and “The Witching Hour” which compliment the classic rock influenced and fan favourites “Supercharged” and “Burn What Remains”, the latter of which was turned into a video on their Myspace page.

Giving the Leicester scene a much needed jolt of that old punk energy, the band have brought their in-your-face stage show to 2007 summer audiences at the Trashstock and Hard Drive Festivals as well as high profile supports with Winnebago Deal and a recent opening for The Glitterati in Nottingham.

After the success of the “Going Down South” Tour in September which coincided with their appearance on a DVD giveaway for Fast Car Magazine, the best selling motor publication in the UK, the band have high hopes for their forthcoming final show in front of their home crowd.

Other highlights of 2007 include the band’s Guest Quest competitions which gave attendees of gigs the chance to win band merchandise using Facebook and Myspace to spot themselves at the bands’ shows, supporting the Red Cross Charity at Leicester’s Music CafĂ© in March and interviews on Takeover Radio allowing their younger fans to get involved with the band’s music.
Using their newly formed Street Team the band also created their own brand of condoms and have now chalked up over 26000 web hits to their official site after extensive gigging at packed venues in Sheffield, Lincoln, Nottingham, Brighton and London’s famous 12 Bar Club.

All the classic Authentics elements are in place: crisp and loud guitars, propulsive pop drums, bottom end bass and smooth vocals that inevitably lead into a catchy chorus payoff so don’t be scared, witches and vampires gather and come see the band in their “authentic” line-up as the full moon rises.
